The die-casting process employed by the Losier factory involves injecting molten metal into a mold cavity under high pressure. This mold cavity is formed by two hardened tool steel dies that have been precision-machined; the underlying operating principle is similar to that of injection molding. Most die-cast parts are produced from non-ferrous metals—specifically aluminum alloys and zinc alloys—and, depending on the type of metal being cast, either hot-chamber or cold-chamber casting machines may be utilized.
