Impregnation, also known as penetration or infiltration, involves immersing the casting in a special impregnation liquid. Through natural penetration, vacuum, or pressure, the impregnation liquid fully fills the pores of the casting. After the impregnation liquid solidifies, the pores are effectively sealed, thereby improving the overall integrity of the casting.
Impregnation treatment is mainly divided into two categories: local impregnation and overall impregnation. Local impregnation uses methods such as brushing, injection, dipping, or local pressurization, and is suitable for aluminum castings with clearly defined defect locations; while overall impregnation includes various processes such as atmospheric pressure impregnation, pressure impregnation, vacuum impregnation, and vacuum-pressure impregnation, which are more suitable for mass processing of small and medium-sized castings.
